About the Paintings

Technical Aspects

The Schoodic Point Series was created with high-quality acrylic paints. The larger pieces are done on laminated aluminum panels. I chose this platform because of its long-term stability and archival properties. They are rigid and strong and will not warp or stretch or discolor over time. Each panel is double-sided and mounted on wooden frame structures for extra strength. Once mounted, the surfaces are carefully primed, covered with multiple coats of Gesso and sanded smooth. The pristine white surfaces are now ready to receive unique images. The smaller pieces are done on traditional canvas stretched over wooden frames.

Painting Techniques

The methods used to create the paintings range from very traditional approaches to unique experimental adventures. Sometimes I used very small camel hair brushes to create detailed areas. By contrast, I also used very large spatulas, sponges, toothbrushes and a few other tools found around my studio. Many of the techniques that I used must remain undescribed. In the end, I followed the images in my mind that evolved from what I saw, felt, heard and experienced on the Schoodic Peninsula.
